Aged care choice and dignity

Facilitating Consumer choice and dignity around eating and drinking

Making informed decisions about life, and having those decisions respected, is a crucial right of each consumer of aged care services.

This includes the right of an individual to choose to take risks in life, known as dignity of risk. This is an important concept when it comes to resident’s decisions around eating and drinking, particularly when the presence swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) poses adverse risks such as chest infections, life threatening choking incidents and malnutrition.

Loqui can provide support and education to residential aged care facility staff around informed decision and dignity of risk to align with the Aged Care Quality Standards (July, 2019).
